Obesity and Diabetes
0 comments Wednesday, February 18, 2009
Today, obesity epidemic is a global problem. Obesity is also no longer a condition that just affects older people, although the likelihood does increase with age, and increasing numbers of young people have been diagnosed with obesity. So what’s the matter? The research has indicated that obesity is preceding the development of type2 diabetes.Wait, before we continue, lest discuss about type of diabetes. There are two types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2. The first type (type 1) is also called juvenile diabetes, and is usually diagnosed in childhood. It is the body’s cells and the pancreas’ inability to produce enough insulin. In type 2 diabetes there is not enough insulin produced for the body or the body is not making proper use of the insulin that is available.
The statistic showed that in 1990, 11 million of Americans has affected by diabetes. Nine years later, the number has increased become 16 million (about 6% of American). Aside, the obesity rate increased from 12% nearly 20%.
Diabetes is a disorder in which the body's cells do not take the glucose from the blood. Tissue residues as glucose-hungry cells are forced to consume their own proteins. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, blindness and amputations in adults. Almost all the increase in the last decade is 85% of diabetics who suffer from type 2 or adult-onset "diabetes. These people lack the ability to use the hormone insulin.
The links between type 2 diabetes and obesity are firmly established. Without the intervention of a healthy diet and adequate exercise, obesity may develop diabetes during a relatively short period of time. Education and awareness is the key to solving the problem of diabetes, but the fight against obesity when it is still at an early stage is essential in preventing the spread of the disease.
The number of patient (who suffered diabates) are forecast to double by as early as 2010, meaning a large and potentially unsustainable drain on resources. Complications such as foot ulceration, nephropathy, retinopathy and heart disease, as well as being serious risks for the patients are very costly to treat.
There is a need for a comprehensive and culturally appropriate long-range educational literature that informs the public of the risks of eating badly and not exercising. Modifying lifestyle can often prevent obesity, and to avoid a health crisis to disseminate information that emphasizes the importance of doing just that. The prevention of childhood obesity, which is now rising, should be a priority.
So, the best way to avoid diabetes is maintain a healthy weight for our body type and health in order to reduce the risks to their health. Medical support is available through our health care provider if needed.
